The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

TORONTO, ON - August 3, 2005 - 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. (TSX: ONE - www.01com.com), a leading remote access solutions provider, today announced it has been granted a patent (U.S. Patent No. 6,928,479) for the process whereby a centralized server acts as a "proxy" to facilitate a communications session over the Internet between two personal computers (PCs) from anywhere in the world. The result is a private communication portal providing features including, but not limited to, remote access and control functionality making it easy for people on the go to stay connected to their essential business information. The demand for mobile productivity tools, such as this, is large and growing rapidly. This patent provides 01 Communique with the opportunity to expand its revenue model by licensing the patented technology, in return for royalty payments, to other companies offering remote access and control products that make use of the patented technology.

"Business people are becoming increasingly more mobile with a strong need to stay connected. The result is a large and growing demand for reliable, secure, and easy to install and use remote access and control products. Our technology was designed to address these issues," said Andrew Cheung, President and CEO of 01 Communique. "The granting of this patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office demonstrates that the technology we developed to address these issues is unique and patentable."

About the Patent

The patent relates to a system for providing access to a personal computer having a location on the Internet defined by a dynamic IP address from a remote computer. The system comprises a personal computer linked to the Internet with either (i) a dynamic public IP address (publicly addressable) or (ii) a dynamic LAN IP address (publicly un-addressable), the personal computer being further linked to a data communication facility, the data communication facility being adapted to create and send a communication that includes a then current dynamic public IP address or dynamic LAN IP address of the personal computer. A locator server computer is then operable to act as an intermediary between the personal computer and the remote computer by creating one or more communication sessions in response to receipt of the request for communication with the personal computer. The location facility is then responsive to the request from the remote computer for communication with the personal computer to retrieve the current location and port number or the current communication session associated with the personal computer from the dynamic location directory, and provide this data to the personal computer.

Additional information regarding the patent will be available on or about August 9th on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web Site at www.uspto.gov .

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
