Another Gripe - Noisy Web Page Ads - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Greetings:

You might think that companies would know that every poll ever taken shows that website visitors HATE it when ads appear on the page that automatically generate sound. Uninvited music is bad enough, but having a voice start speaking is enough to make you want to wring the neck of the person responsible for it.

Why a professional engineering-related company would do something like that is a complete mystery. Some electronics companies have been running ads on engineering magazine websites that play totally obnoxious sounds while the video runs. Often it never shuts off. You have to leave the page to get rid of it (and I gladly do so). This cannot be good for the company or the host site.

Maybe they subscribe to the old politician's yarn that any publicity - even pad publicity - is good publicity. If you hate these ads, please contact any company that does this and let them know. I have sent a couple e-mails already. The only way to make them stop is if enough of their potential customers tell them to stop.

Send them an e-mail and just use this for the Subject line - no note necessary:
"I hate your website ads that play audio when the page loads!"

Thanks.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
