The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Greetings:

If you attended the IMS2012 show in Montreal, Canada, your name and contact info was just provided to all the exhibitors "for verification purposes" - whatever that means. Maybe if you read the fine print in the registration form it warned that your info might be provided to 3rd parties. Regardless, it's out there. I have no idea whether your info is also being sold or given away to other entities. So, if you start getting a barrage of e-mail and snail mail solicitations soon, this might help explain it.

This is an excerpt from the e-mail sent to exhibitors at the end of the show:

"All IMS2012 exhibitors receive an alphabetical listing of this year’s Conference and Exhibit-Only registrants. The list includes the name and address of all 4427 registered attendees and is sorted in alphabetical order by last (family) name. To download the list click here. The listing is provided without charge and is intended for verification purposes. Also included are the demographics of the conference detailing the breakdown of attendee types and aggregate data as reported from the conference registration form."

yeah, big surprise! It is a money machine.

That is why you need to sign up with a seldom-used email address, that you do not mind if they fill up with spam.

I do not personally mind vendors getting contact info, so long as it is not "in your face" sort of marketing. Often they contact you with new components or services that you are not aware of! And hey, its a tough economy out there. If they are going to pay for a booth, they should get something back for their marketing bux!

Greetings biff44:

Yeah, I suppose we need to show a little mercy to the guys trying to survive in this rotten economy.

If the government would just build more roads, all those businesses would thrive

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
