RF Cafe - Ghost Town!!! - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

-- Amateur Radio
-- Anecdotes, Gripes & Humor
-- Antennas
-- CAE, CAD, & Software
-- Circuits & Components
-- Employment & Interviews
-- Miscellany
-- Swap Shop
-- Systems
-- Test & Measurement

I first joined RF cafe Forum(s) just weeks after it was up and running....... that was many years ago. Back then the forums were very busy. I remember Kirt and a few others (including me) were RF Globalnet forum users and we jumped ship over to RF Cafe as RF Globalnet seemed to be getting less useful as time went by. Until recently I have not used the RF cafe forum as for some reason my IP address was banned. I gave up trying to get my company IT department to sort it out and simply re-joined as a new guy with a new user name. Anyway, getting to the point......

The RF cafe forum is (relatively speaking) like a Ghost town now. Is this a reflection of the current econmic situation? or the fact that the home page has an excessive amount of information on it! Navigating to the forum from the home page is interesting!

mmmmmmmm

Steve

Yeah I've noticed things everywhere have slowed down a lot. Probably is due to all the people that have lost jobs.

Not getting the comment about "Navigating to the forum from the home page is interesting!" I just click on the bright yellow link at the top of the page. How did you get here?

Cheers :salut:

Greetings RF Head:

You are right about the Forums activity being down - particularly for posting. In fact, overall traffic to RF Cafe has been noticeably down since around last summer/fall. My guess is that it is due to fewer of the typical visitors working and therefore not needing the resources available here.

I sure hope for everybody's sake that the entire world works its way out of the hole soon. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any earth-shaking application or event on the sidelines ready to lift us. Some say the most probable technology is green power generation like wind farms, tidal generators, nuclear power, etc. Such items are infrastructure improvements as well, which are essential to maintaining a healthy economy.

Building more cell towers in Africa and Afghanistan so terrorists can communicate better doesn't really do much for the bottom line of the producers of the world, especially since the phones and service are provided by paying customers. We've been doing that for years and I'm still waiting for the success stories to hit the wires.

Regarding managing to navigate your way to the Forums, I would appreciate a little more information about the difficulty you experienced. I have made a lot of changes in the HTML code to accommodate the various browser types and versions, but sometimes things still go awry. Is the main link at the top of the page not showing up for you?

Take care.

Kirt,

regarding navigation to 'here'. I can see only "forum" in small text buried in the second from top window in the section defined by blue highlighted "RF Cafe" wording. Until today the response when I clicked on this was to take me a page with RF cafe prizes and that was it. The link now seems to be working. I can't see anything in yellow!

Steve

Greetings RF Head:

Yeah, that link was hosed for a while; sorry for the inconvenience.

Regarding not seeing a yellow forum link, that must be a browser quirk of some kind. Which browser are you using, and on on which OS? Here is what you should be seeing at the top of the page:

Greetings:

Thanks for the feedback. As you mention, there is a lot of info presented, so missing any particular item has a higher than hoped-for probability.

I just inverted the colors for the Forums link at the top of the page. Maybe that will be enough to draw attention to both the Forums and the extensive list of components vendors.

Take care.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
