Sloth Humor - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Greetings:

Each month in Scientific American, Steve Mirsky does a great job writing a humorous article on some scientific venture has has experienced. In his May 2009 article, Steve described his visit to the Aviarios Sloth Rescue Center, near Cahuita (Costa Rica). He begins, "Life is going to present special challenges to any creature named for a deadly sin."

The funniest line, which cannot be accessed from the partial article at the above link, is this, "And a sloth does indeed spend most of its time in the canopy [tree tops], coming down to ground level about once a week to urinate and defecate. Its life style is thus errily similar to a rare primate, the New York City penthouse-dwelling supermodel."

So you're a fellow SciAm reader, eh? I think it is one of the best mid-level monthly pubs out there. They cover a wide range of topics at a just-right level of technical jargon.

I read that same article and somehow missed the dig at the anorexic models. :oops:

It's been a while since I came to RF Cafe. I see you've been busy. Man, you've got a lot of advertisers! That has to have some of the magazine site a little concerned. I checked into their rates and see it's quite high. I wonder what their viewer rates are compared to RF Cafe? Do you know?

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
