Uranushertz - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

I am commenting on an interesting statement by non-Nobel-prize-winning Kirt Blattenberger in which he proposed a unit of measurement of uranushertz. Simply stated, Mr. Blattenberger postulates that some measurements can be expressed as a ratio to the amount of time that it takes Uranus to revolve once around the sun.

Just as we use AU (astronomical unit) to simplify description of great distances, the Uranushertz ( UHz ) would be useful when stating frequencies that are magnitudes lower than 1 Hz.

For example, the rate at which the earth rotates about its axis (once per day) may be expressed as 0.00001157407 Hz, a very inconvenient number. Stated in UHz, however, earth rotates about its axis at 30,859 uranushertz, and the earth revolves around the sun at 83.8 uranushertz (83.8 UHz).

If we state the 11 year solar cycle is 7.686 UHz it becomes clear that Uranus experiences nearly 8 solar sunspot cycles per year (on Uranus), nearly 2 entire solar cycles per season. This may explain why we do not see reports of amateur radio operation from Uranus.

The constitution of the U.S. of A. provides that only congress can tax us and spend our money and congressional elections are once every four years. It seems that each four years that congress decides to tax working people hoping to create more working people. Using the unit of UH, we could then say that Congress stimulates us at a rate of 21.136 uranushertz. :smt089

Ha! That is hilarious! :smt043

Your application of the Uranushertz unit to paying taxes is particularly apt! :smt038

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
