Greetings:

Back about five years ago, I had a (legal) copy of a drafting program called AutoSketch v6, put out by the AutoCad company. With it, I create a few drawings that output in a file format that had an extension of "skf." Now, I need to open one of the files, but no longer can locate the program (that was about 3 computers and 2 household moves ago).

If anyone out there has a AutoSketch v6 for sale, I would be interested in purchasing it from you. I have been monitoring eBay, but that version does not show up, I cannot locate a file translator that actually works anywhere. In fact, one of the "free" translators that I tried actually ended up installing a piece of spyware on my computer, so I'm through with even trying to get a file translator.

Please let me know if you have a copy of AutoSketch to sell, or if you know of a legitimate file translator that will convert the "skf" files to "dwg" or any of the more common formats. Thanks.

Hi Kirt
Now I understand why you created this section: you needed some software. Fair enough.

I had been using Autosketch in the last of the steam-driven DOS releases.
That version certainly exports skf to dwg. You could run the DOS in the privacy of your own den so no-one can witness it

You nailed me Yep, the final nudge to create this new forum was a little self-serving, but there really have been requests for such an area.

Thanks for the offer to allow me to "borrow" a copy for the purpose of file translation. Since I own some newer versions (none of them support skf anymore for some reason) of multiple drafting packages, maybe I can be forgiven if the practice borders on questionable. The AutoCad folks do not even provide a converter in the mega$$$ package, so what's an honest user to do?

I have done exhaustive online searches and ended up with a spyware infection (AdAware handily eradicated it). There is nothing on the AutoDesk user community forum with suggested file converters, either. I wonder, though, whether your DOS version, being earlier than my v6 Windows version, would even read the file?

Oh well, the search shall continue...

Greetings:

I finally found a copy on eBay - got it for a mere $9.99 (+ shipping).

Now I can finally open those AutoSketch files. I felt confident getting rid of the old version of AutoSketch figuring that surely AutoDesk (the AutoCAD people) would maintain backward compatibility for at least opening old files, but they stopped supporting it only one verson later.

Thank goodness for eBay!
