The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

The design can be based on either existing or new components or architectures, coming from Nokia internal component design teams or from external suppliers. In case of commercial chipsets, the integration work is done in collaboration with the supplier.

In this particular position, a substantial part of responsibility is to specify, oversee, implement and verify audio design together with suppliers and product program team.

A Baseband design project is done in close co-operation with Hardware manager, RF, mechanics and PWB designers, but also in collaboration with SW and system integration engineers.

Because this work is having dependencies to internal and external component vendors in various locations, individual needs to be able to communicate with spoken and written English. Mandarin proficiency is also desired.

Travel to Asia will be necessary to drive and support design activities.

Your main tasks will be:
• Defining, planning and specifying baseband platforms
• Reviewing the implementation of baseband design
• Owning audio aspects of BBHW and overall design
• Offering expert advice in design details and/or doing practical design
• Reviewing and guiding baseband design details to meet operator and Nokia requirements
• Work closely with RF, Antenna and ME designers to ensure overall hardware design meets operator and Nokia requirements
• Specify and guide required testing
• Connecting with your peers within different project stakeholders
Qualifications:
To succeed in the position you have a degree in electrical engineering, preferably a M.S. in telecommunication or applied electronics. You are also having relevant background in your technical discipline, with proven track record. Furthermore we expect you to have:
• At least 10 years working experience, preferably in mobile device design and chipset development.
• Demonstrated success in designing audio electronics.
• Very good skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Pro-active approach to own task area.
• Experience with interfacing component suppliers.
• Skills on networking, negotiating and communicating.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
