Federal Government - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

It's actually kind of cool working for the Federal Government. I was very impressed with their initiative to pursue new technologies and try to make them work. The only downside is that you encounter some "engineers" that think high-powered AM TX antennas can be shortened to less than 3ft. Maybe, but not using our current existing technology.

Hi folks,

My experience as a contractor for the Fed has been pretty positive overall. The guys I've worked with have been pretty sharp - Hams all of them. I guess it is highly dependent on who you happen to interface with. I've heard horror stories, but I have to give bigtime kudos to the teams I've come into contact with.

Figured I should put in a plug for them since they get slammed so regularly.

It really depends on the agency. Many agencies are staffed full of incompetents who don't know and don't care.

I've worked in Technical Operations with the FAA since 1990 and have always been impressed with the professionalism and dedication of my colleagues.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
