Sr. Antenna Systems Engineer - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Required technical skills: 1. Shall have a thorough knowledge and understanding of antennas, radomes and propagation models in the frequency range HF through Ka band. 2. Shall have a detailed understanding of antenna/radome characteristics/parameters, design tradeoffs, and physical practicalities/limitations. 3. Shall have experience with computer electromagnetic models such as NEC and BSC. Shall be capable of building and verifying antenna models in CEM analysis to predict performance when installed on aircraft and in ground systems. 4. Shall be familiar with antenna range (free space outdoor and anechoic chamber) test setups for accurate measurement of antenna parameters. 5. Shall have the ability to perform RF link and budget analysis to optimize system design for sensitivity, atmospheric noise levels and dynamic range. Shall be able to derive functional requirements for components of systems to achieve specified performance. 6. Shall have effective oral and written communication skills and be able to prepare/present reports to internal and external customers.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
