Trying to get started in RFIC - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

I will graduate with MSEE this december. I need some advice on how to get started in the field of RFIC (don't have any industrial experiences). Already applied to numerous co-op, intern, and entry level positions (through company websites, careerbuilders, etc), but it didn't seem to work out, never got a response from them.

btw, how much of knowledge do you need to know about RF systems (GSM, CDMA) in order to be successful RFIC designer (at the entry level)? Because all the projects I have done so far are that you are given specs in terms of circuit parameters (gain, iip3, etc), and I am more interested in the circuits than the systems. Would I be better off switching to analog circuit or mixed signal design?

get a job doing anything design related or even start in test for now and then get into design. target the companies that are relevant to what you did (cmos, bipolar, gaas) and email people who published papers from ieee and keep in contact with recruiters: for example use www.linkedin.com for contacts. get your name out there, market yourself as if you were a company.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
