Power Per carrier - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Does any one know how to calculate power per carier for say an antenna that has multiple carriers including GSM, CDMA. The maximum composite power for the Downlink is given.?

IMHO, some of HP spectrum analyzer has a capabilty to measure a "relative power" per the mask size of BW you tune.
For example, to measure a "relative" composite power, you have to know the bw. Let's say 200Mhz and SA measured as 20dBm while the actual know power is -40dBm. And now you tune center freq to the carrier you want measure and tune the mask BW equal to the carrier BW. and let's say it is 5dBm. Then the difference is 15dB=20-5 so that the carrier power is -55dBm = -40dBm -15...

At least, this worked for me to measure power of carrier recived from satellite.

Hi Daver,

Who is the vendor? Lucent/Nortel/Nokia/Ericsson ?? There are pegs in the system which will give you either Peak Power usage/carrier or Avg. power usage per carrier - these pegs are on a sector/carrier level...so you would have power/carrier/sector.

hope that helps! Let me know what technology and the vendor, I may be able to give you the exact peg.
