With each passing day, the importance of our nation’s public safety professionals to operate and execute their duties flawlessly grows in significance. MDS is proud to work with public safety and 911 emergency communications groups to provide mobile data, redundant/backup systems, last-mile access, and back-haul to and from control centers and broadcast points.

Interoperability is Key to Information Sharing

Because public-safety agencies have their own communications infrastructure, tools and applications, interoperability is essential in order to allow cooperation and sharing of information within agencies. Using an MDS IP-based network allows agencies to share information in real time and make decisions in concert. An MDS IP-based infrastructure also makes it easier to share information with experts and bring additional knowledge into critical decision making.

A wireless link can be used for control and data acquisition, voice-over-IP (VoIP), communications from remote sites, and in the transport of event-driven video from a camera monitoring a remote site back to the control center.

Mobile Solutions to Increase Efficiency

Today's latest in-vehicle communications systems are expected to help increase officer safety, efficiency, accountability and ability to multitask.  The need for real-time access to mission-critical data such as license plates, digital fingerprints, mug shots, vehicle location, etc., has grown exponentially. Using an MDS network, officers can access this information from their vehicles making them safer and more productive. Wireless video transmission is playing a significant role in the remote assessment of many situations.

First Responder and Critical Backup Communications

One of the most critical needs of first responders at any disaster scene is the ability to communicate. MDS wireless solutions can transmit voice, from a voice -over-IP (VoIP) device and video over long-ranges. This allows emergency responders using these solutions to communicate visually and by voice from the scene of an incident to a vehicle or temporary emergency command post. In the event of a catastrophic emergency where communications are completely knocked out, first responders can set up a new MDS network in hours. Utilizing a private infrastructure for voice and data communications provides critical communications when public telephone facilities and cellular access is limited or unavailable.

Real Solutions for Today’s Utility and Energy Companies

In the face of deregulation, many utilities are consolidating dispatch centers and mobilizing their large field forces. They need to get work orders to the field as quickly as possible and be able to track developments, particularly during an outage or other critical situation. Utilities also want to track their vehicles in the event they have to move them, or to ensure the most cost-effective routing is used.

With MDS wireless solutions, users can now send data and communicate directly between dispatcher and field tech saving hundreds of hours and increasing the productivity of people in the field. Field technicians can gain access and send information using standard interfaces over the wireless link. MDS IP-based solutions allow multiple applications and users to operate on one infrastructure.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
