Each week, I select a new book that is relevant to engineers, scientists, students, hobbyists or managers.
Most of the time they are sold through Amazon (I earn a few pennies on each sale), but when possible, I present books that are available in
an e-book format that can be downloaded for free. The latter are much less available. After all, most people like to be paid for their work,
as I'm certain that you do, too.
Note: I just began archiving these picks in May of 2009, but they have been going on since about 2003.

Effective Expert Witnessing: Practices for the 21st Century
Effective
Expert Witnessing: Practices for the 21st Century, 5th Edition, by Jack V. Matson, comes highly recommended by the good folks at
IMS ExpertServices. They are the origin of all the BullsEye articles I post
that provide insight into real court cases involving expert witnesses. After I recently posted "Tips from an Expert Witness
Recruiter on Getting Hired," written by Mr. Toby Edwards, I wrote to ask whether there is a book that would be particularly good for
someone either already engaged in or contemplating being engaged in providing expert witness services. This book was the response.

Tweezers for Working with Tiny Surface Mount Components
If you work with surface mount components, you know how challenging it can be positioning and holding them while soldering and unsoldering.
Having a good pair of tweezers can make the difference between a good experience and a disaster. These two types of tweezers can definitely
make you life better, and they're very inexpensive.
The set of
six black tweezers have various tip shapes that are non-magnetic and have an anti-static finish.
The
white-tipped tweezer uses ceramic material that can stand soldering type temperatures without transferring the heat to your
fingers. At less than $5 each, you can outfit your home and work labs with quality tweezers and still have money left over to donate to RF Cafe

Understanding, Building, and Using Baluns and Ununs
Understanding,
Building, and Using Baluns and Ununs, by Jerry Sevick. Dr. Sevick, W2FMI, is widely known in amateur radio circles for his work with
transmission line transformers, baluns and ununs. This successor to the popular and authoritative Baluns and Ununs includes a
great deal of new tutorial material, and also includes new designs not in the previous book, along with crystal clear explanations of how and
why they work.

Foundations of Antenna Engineering
Foundations of Antenna Engineering: A Unified Approach for Line-Of-Sight and Multipath, by Kildal Per-Simon.
This is the first textbook that contains a holistic treatment of antennas both for traditional antennas mounted on masts
(line-of-sight antenna systems) and for small antennas used on modern wireless devices such as smart phones being
subject to signal variations (fading) due to multipath propagation. The focus is on characterization, as well as
describing classical antennas by modern complex vector theory - thereby linking together many disciplines such as EM theory

The Art and Science of Ultrawideband Antennas
The Art and Science of Ultrawideband
Antennas, by Hans Schantz, is a new publication released by Artech House. Along with theoretical formulations behind the engineering,
this book is chock full of examples of actual antennas with very unusual shapes, and there is a nice chart of the evolutionary timeline of
UWB antenna development that dates back to Maxwell in the 1800s (a nice wall chart candidate for the
lab if the publishers would enlarge and colorize it). "This comprehensive treatment of ultrawideband (UWB) antennas and time-domain microwave
engineering serves as an invaluable practical reference for anyone involved in antenna and RF design work. This authoritative volume enables
