International Star Registry Fraud - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

-- Anecdotes, Gripes & Humor
-- Antennas
-- CAE, CAD, & Software
-- Circuits & Components
-- Employment & Interviews
-- Miscellany

Greetings:

For the umpteenth time, I just heard one of those idiotic commercials for a company offering to register a star name for the person of your choice - for a fee. They claim to send you a certificate with your star coordinates, and to enter that name and star in the copyright office.

What a crock of garbage! I can't believe what these crooks get away with. :smt067

The International Astronomical Union (IAU), which actually has responsibility for cataloging and naming stars, says the entire system is bogus. (click banner)

I've heard those ads and thought the exact same thing - thery're a freaking ripoff. I wonder how they can get away with it. It's like selling parcels of land on the Moon or Mars.

I guess it's like old PT Barnum (or somebody) said... there's a fool born every minute. :jocolor:

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The Internet was still largely an unknown entity at the time and not much was available in the form of WYSIWYG ...
