Helical Antenna or Whip or What? - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Hi, Please can somebody advise me on what antenna I must use. We have design a prepaid system in South-Africa that need to be link via RF. Now I have done many RF designs before but never did I need to decided what antenna will work the best.

The antenna will be mounted horisontal and will be directly mounted on the pcb and the system will be one meter above ground. The collector station will 3 meters above ground.

Can anybody please help.

Thanks,

Gary

Unfortunately, there's not nearly enough information in your post to decide. What frequency? What is the distance to the receiver/repeater? How much power is being transmitted and received? How much space do you have for an antenna? Plus, a host of other less important considerations....
