Waveguide repair - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

If a deteriorated waveguide has holes, can it be repaired with Gas Welding with Aluminium?

The only time I saw this attempted, it was a disaster.
I think the welder had failed to insert an inert high temperature backing sheet inside the waveguide and so the whole broad wall collapsed.

If done with care and with an inert sheet metal backing strip jigged inside the guide, it should be possible
