Will this Work? - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi,

I'm brand new to the forums.

I recently bought a small meter reader which transmits temperature and meter info on 433 Mhz. The meter reader is located in a utility room; and I would like to put the receiver in another room.

Between the rooms, is concrete block. Ie nothing propagates out of the ulitity room. I think (I can't really tell) there is about 4 m between the rooms and walls. The walls are 15 cm thick; pour concrete block.

There is a 1 inch conduit between the rooms; I was thinking about sticking some coax in there, and put on some 400 Mhz or so antennas on each end, building sort of a passive relay system.
Would that work?

At the moment there is telephone wire in the conduit.. is there any way I could use that as an antenna?

I don't have any idea of the transmitters power or the receivers sensitivity.

The manufactors states about 100 M line of site operation if that helps.

Many thanks,
Sean
