Design a USB RF Device - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hello, I am not an electrician or even well versed in circuitry but I do have an idea that I want to employ. I am currently setting off professional fireworks using a RF transmitter and receiver. Instead of using the handheld transmitter I want to build a usb device that mimics the handheld. In this way I can use the computer to send a signal to the receiver to set off the fireworks thereby giving the process much more accuracy and the ability to coordinate the fireworks with music. Any help with this would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Using the USB port sounds rather complicated.
Instead you could either design a simple parallel port interface to a UHF 433 MHz transmitter more easily, or there are ready-made solutions available on the market that do it this way. A source in the UK is quasar electronics, but they are available world-wide. The main application is to extend peripheral device range from several feet to hundreds of meters if desired.
Alternatively, the same sources probably have USB interfaces too. I never checked for those.
