Oscillator - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi!

I am trying to design an oscillator operating between (400MHz- 1.2GHz) using a resonator and a feedback amplifier. I do not have any background on RF PCB and was wondering on how to get started. Can anyone recommend me some reading material, URLs or books that can help me get started?

Thanks !

I do not have off the top of my head a good book explicitly on RF PCB or Ocillator design. I would recommend that first you look for and read application notes.

Here is a zilog example that I know some have found useful:
http://www.zilog.com/docs/z8/appnotes/on_chip.pdf

If you want a really good practicle book on RF design in general, though it does not cover PCB design, I would recommend:

"RF Circuit Design" by Chris Bowick ISBN 0-7506-9946-9

This is great for practcle theory and discreet RF radio.

A really good academic work that is well written would be
"Planar Microwave Engineering" by Thomas H. Lee ISBN 0-521-83526-7

If you just want to get up and running, application notes will probably be your best bet. Agilent, Burr-brown and many others tend to have really useful app notes.

Good luck.
