RF effects of Solder Mask - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

What effect does solder mask have at 2.4GHz? (It's on a 1W PA)

Solder mask over a transmission line will increase the insertion loss.
At 2.4GHz the degradation would be still small. As higher the frequency is as worse the impact of the solder mask will be.

At 2.4GHz no need to worry too much!!

Thank you for the reply. Do you expect any problems with Amplifier (1W) feedback degrading the signal? Input level +5dbm, 25db gain.

I don't expect that you will have any problem. In general, solder mask effects are due on the frequency of the signal and not due to the power level. If your circuit would work in 5GHz then you would definitely have problems.
