Thales Communications has a dynamic opening for an experienced professional to support the Naval Communications Business Unit in specifying both equipment and systems for naval and land-based communications systems. The qualified candidate's primary focus will include HF Radio Equipment consisting of low power receivers, high power transmitters, antennas, receive/transmit couplers and combiners. A secondary systems-level focus will include broader capabilities in V/UHF radio and RF components, naval networking systems, and control and management applications. This will involve working within a small multidiscipline team in liaison with Thales Land and Joint Systems, CNI, in Crawley, UK. Additional tasks may include conducting and reporting (written and verbal) on feasibility studies, producing estimates for proposals, and liaison/briefings/negotiations with DOD and industry customers requiring solid public speaking and presentation skills.


To be considered for this exciting and challenging role you must have:

U.S. Citizenship


BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or similar


To demonstrate at least 8 years experience with RF technologies, primarily/ideally at HF with the ability to design and develop innovative and cost effective system solutions. Additional broader experience in VHF/UHF, naval networking, control and management and systems integration a plus.


Familiarity with the specific requirements of naval communications systems: STANAGs, waveforms, security constraints, processes and procedures.


The ability to demonstrate a general knowledge of the following: RF power amplifiers, RF filters, RF distribution (splitters, amplifiers and combiners), receivers, oscillators, frequency synthesisers, RF cosite and EMC, and link budgets. Leading to an expert knowledge of at least two of the are


An awareness of digital control and/or DSP techniques would be advantageous.


The ability to work as part of a small focussed team or alone, as project constraints dictate.


To be sufficiently flexible to multitask a number of activities as departmental constraints dictate.


To be able to manage themselves, to perform a development task meeting the technical and commercial constraints within the given constraints of time and cost.


To attend customer meetings when required and on occasions visit installations to provide technical support.


To take an active part in promoting Thales’ combined expertise to customers, acting as an ambassador of the group at all times. This may include briefing Thales capabilities, representing Thales capabilities at Trade and Government Sponsored exhibitions, etc.
