RF Outsourcing - Help! - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hello People!

This is my first post, hello to everyone.

I wanted to ask a favor, im working on a project together with some Engineers and i want you to tell me your opinion about it.

I am a Telecommunications Engineer, living in Argentina (thats South America) together with some colleagues we are working on the possibility to provide post processing services for Wireless Carriers in the US and Europe, focusing on Model tuning, Benchmarking, Optimization. The idea is to take advantage of the low cost of contracting highly experienced RF Engineers in Argentina, and have them post process drive testing statistics and other RF parameters in order to provide to our clients reports and suggestions on the RF existing problems.
I know this is a business required in Argentina but i wonder if this kind of solution could see some future in the US or Europe, in order to start heading to that direction. Im planning to go to California next January but its been difficult to develop contacts from here.

Well, in my opinion the problem in electrical engineering is, that you can choose freely the place of your research & development department.
I mean, a civil engineer who has to build a bridge or a road has to travel to the place where it should be build. A mechanical engineer constructing a plant also has got to travel to the place (well, not the whole department but at least some of them).
But an electrical engineer developing a mobile phone can do that in every place of the world. so companys generally choose high-tech locations with good infrastructure and so on, Northamerica, Europa and parts of Asia. Why should they establish a development department in South America ?
On the other side very few people in South America have got money to buy the expensive RF-equipment...
Finally a lot of Argentines leave their country for a better job, it is an círculo vicioso.

I don't have got the impression that companies give away the high-tech things like RF. What they do, at least in Western Europe, is giving away "small" things, like developing microprocessor circuits or production of pcb-boards. This things nowadays are made in Eastern Europe, it is nearby and the labour costs are quite low.

I know that there is something like a "electronic cluster" of companies in Cordoba Capital, Discar S.R.L is a member of this. Maybe they can help you.
