RF Systems Engineer Job in Denver, CO - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

WildBlue plans to deliver affordable high-speed internet access via satellite to our customers homes and offices in the contiguous U.S. Our affordable, high-speed (3.0 megabit per second) internet connection can accommodate up to eight PC's (or other internet-ready appliances) simultaneously.

WildBlue is currently seeking an individual that will be responsible for owning all RF/communications systems engineering activities for the WildBlue system within the Engineering organization. Specifically the role entails integrating and disposition of performance issues relating to the satellites, gateways procurement, system RF links, satellite terminals, and any RF-communications related technologies at all the gateways, in the lab and other locations as needed.

Key areas of focus for this position will include:

Ultimate owner of all RF/communication related functions for the complete WildBlue system. Given the complexity of the system, responsible individual will interact and support multiple organizations/individuals:

Support Director of Gateway procurement with all RF and communication specification issues (resolution/disposition of potential non-compliance issues), performance assessments, test data review, and interface compatibility of all RF aspects of WildBlue gateways. Additionally, may be required to provide technical assistance with FCC regulatory activities.

Support satellite procurement lead with all RF and communication specification activities (resolution/disposition of potential non-compliance issues), satellite performance evaluation, and interface compatibility of all RF aspects of the WildBlue Ka-band satellites. May be required to assist with on-orbit test activities, including review and contribution of test plans/procedures, and review of test results.

Support procurement manager for outdoor units (ODU) with any engineering issues dealing with the specification, development, manufacturing validation, testing and performance monitoring of the all ODU components (Ka band transceiver, antenna/OMT/filter/polarizer/feed, Ku band DBS LNBFs, frequency selective surface sub-reflector (FSS), and LNBF switches.).

Work closely with Sr. Director of Systems Engineering in the update and maintenance of existing system level communication link budget tools, development of power control algorithms, and overall system performance management.

Assist in defining requirements for analog, RF, and communications functionality required for lab functionality needed to support the development and deployment of WildBlue’s initials services as well as on going service and technology development.

Provide technical support to system integration and test and deployment activities with all RF and communications related issues.

Assist in the documentation needed for operational support and maintenance of the system.

The qualification requirements include but are not limited to the following:

You must be a strong self starter, and be able to take ownership of an area and work with minimal supervision. Good written and oral communication skills are essential

BSEE/MSEE degree with emphasis on wireless communications and RF focus

Minimum of 5 years of experience in satellite or wireless communication systems.

+2 years of experience in a related technology leadership role.

Experience in solving ambiguous and complex system technology issues.

Experience in RF communications (satellite experience preferred but other RF wireless systems may be applicable), error correction codes, antennas, high power RF amplifiers, mixers, phase noise analysis, filters, modulation techniques, and link budgets will be essential to effectively perform this job.

Working knowledge of Excel will be necessary, and experience with programming languages (C/C++) or Matlab will be a strong plus.
