The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Greetings:

EE Times editor Brian Fuller wrote an article entitled "Don't look the other way," in the September 4, 2006 (page 4) edition, that talked about the severe human rights, IP, and environmental crimes that are allowed to persist in China for the sake of the almighty dollar. It was quite thought-provoking. His attack was on the communist government/military, not on the people of China.

A reader wrote a response in the Crosstalk column in the September 25, 2006 edition that is also worth reading. It talks about personal responsibility for supporting the system.

<a link will be provided when available>

I work as an engineer for a company with a huge presence in China, so I think about this stuff often, and have written about it here on RF Cafe. Our people there are top-notch.

What is your opinion on the matter?

Slowly, but surely, Red China has acquired the infrastructure of a manufacturing economy, as the United States has lost production of manufactured goods. Just think of the myriad of household goods and auto parts that bear the "Made in China" label.

So it's not good enough that Earth's last communist country has acquired a large portion of manufactured-goods production that was once part of the United States?

So it's not good enough that Earth's last communist country now has a manned space program and communications satellites to compete with the West's?

Our companies must also build their engineering and scientific community so they can design as well as manufacture goods. So every manufactured product can have a counterfeited communist version for a fraction of the cost of the original manufactured product.

What is the end of such nonsense?

In the best situation, I have seen cheap counterfeited crap communist proucts sold in the USA bearing the "Made in China" label. They are of such inferior quality that I wrote the manufacturer's legal department that their name was being used on counterfeited goods.

In the worst situation, I envision
communist China starting a war with the USA that becomes a world war. Hopefully when the adults take over control of the USA in 2007, more intelligent people will see that trade with communist China is good for communist China and bad for the USA.
Hopefully war with Earth's last communist country will be averted. Hopefully, intelligent people will allow communism to perish from this planet.

You are right. IP rights and individual rights are alien to communism. They are incompatible with a communist government.

Would you buy goods manufactured by Red China when you know Red China is still run by the same thugs that used army tanks to run over Chinese people in Bejing in 1989?

I hope not. To me, it's the same as buying jewskin lampshades from the Nazis in the 1930's.

Well don’t look now but all of the Corporate American Management Teams across the United States of America have decided at least 20 years ago that outsourcing the Design, Development and Manufacturing of their Product Lines is better for the U.S. Citizens that previously performed the professional career responsibilities, the craftsmanship and manufacturing Quality!

Just think back to the late 1980s and into the 1990s how management touted how important it was to obtain a MBA and how Y-O-U could help solve the corporation's problems. In 2001 & 2002 I was involved with a big reverse engineering project build at a Major Corporation while other department managers were claiming how wonderful their engineers and production staff were working together but the upper (Greedy) echelon had decided to outsource the product lines to help save money. The employees were informed that there would be some furloughed personnel. There sure was, all three shifts of engineers, technical supporting staff and naturally the factory production people. The only people that remained were the managers without employees.

Good Oi' Corporation was furloughing personnel at an alarming rate and the people left were dumped with two to four other personnel responsibilities besides their own. If you couldn't keep up with your new and your own responsibilities, your management wouldn't help you succeed, no they would find a way to relieve you of your responsibilities even if it broke the corporations own Code Of Ethics and out you would go!

Engineering personnel and career responsibilities were being outsourced to China, India, Poland, Russia, Japan, France, Spain, Brazil, U.K., Ireland, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Israel & Canada just to name a few countries and our own U.S. Citizens kept being forced out the doors! This corporation wanted to shut down a few facilities in India but were rudely awaken that the Indian Government didn't have a "Good Sense of Humor" for that baloney so the Indian Government nationalized the corporation’s facilities. Another miscalculation by the inept Corporate Expert MBAs.

In 1998 there were 150,000 full time employees worldwide, today there are 67,000 with 2/3rds living and working outside the U.S.A. non-citizens. Made In the U.S.A. means nothing to our industries or our own U.S. Federal Government and this concept has happened at I.B.M., other major corporations and at numerous Defense contractors across the United States of America. In fact you better pray that the U.S. Federal Government doesn’t involve us in another War with Japan because Northrup-Grumman has their Military aircraft manufactured there.

The latest news this Major Corporation has been tagged with, is "A Chinese Female Spy Caught with Corporation Top Secret Software Files" regarding the "Worldwide Public Safety Markets and Our own U.S. DoD Secret Files at O'Hare International Airport!" Again, the "Corporate American Management 'Expert' Team MBA Members" were caught with their pants down. None of those Executives have a Clue regarding what the Communist Red Chinese will do to get at our secrets. Long ago I heard the Communist Red Chinese workers work and help their Government first and every U.S. corporation secondly. Ah Yes, "It's going to come back and place a huge bite in the United States of America.

Here’s something to really think about, in the spring of 2004, our Executive Branch, the Congress and the Senate colabrated with Industry and quietly Passed a Department Of Labor Law raising the bar for all U.S. Citizens to manadorily have 4-Year College or University Degree to be employed in industry or government. The Department Of Labor abolished people having non-degree job titles or exempt pay grades going forward, even though those personnel knew the career positions and could perform the responsibility as good if not better in some cases.

Now if you are sitting out there with up to 1 credit hour short of a 4-Year degree performing Engineering work or otherwise, you’re now considered a technician pay grade. If you have an Associate Degree which now is equivalent to graduating from High School, you’re also considered to be a technician pay grade. Say you attended a Vocational School for 1 year or longer, graduated with a Diploma you are working as a non-degree Engineer performing the same responsibilities that your engineering peers are performing, you’re no longer considered to be anything better than a High School graduate and will be removed from the career and company you devoted your life too. Industry considers you’re an instant I-D-I-O-T!

Now for you people that possess a BSEE or a BSME or whatever your major was in, Industry with the help of our Government has provided you with an advance step backward. Instead of utilizing your knowledge, the Upper Echelon has decided that you now need your Masters Degree plus a State P.E. Certification before you can Design anything for the “said” corporation that employs you. Here’s the “Catch 22” on the State P.E. Certification. You must work in your design field for two (2) years minimum before being allowed to take the State Professional Engineering Certification Test and a Passing Grade but you cannot work as a Corporation Designer till you possess the State P.E. Certification and a Masters Degree in your discipline. Industry and Government have you people stuck between a Rock and a Hard Place.

Since our Middle-Class Americans are being dissolved and our Pay Scales are dropping, “Who’s Going To Finance the Federal Government’s Budgets?”
