Hi Gents, In case you haven't seen it, here
is an interesting take on the patent reform movement.
Frankly, I'm surprised that EETimes printed it -
they're kind of whimpy on this stuff.
Don't Let Whining
by Multinationals Undo 200 Years of Patent Progress
"All this talk
of 'patent trolls' is a red herring, fabricated
by large multinationals to divert attention from
the real issue--that they have no valid defense
against charges they are using the technology of
others without permission (see "Crackberry and the
patent mill," Jan. 30, page 4). Their objective
is not to fix the patent system but to destroy it.
Patents threaten their market dominance.
Companies using someone else's technology aren't
so genteel..."

Anybody that doesn't think the patent system is
broken in the US needs to read this:
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060404/netflix_blockbuster.html
How in the name of god, can you patent the concept
of renting movies!?
Quote:
Netflix also believes its patents cover perhaps
its most popular feature -- the option of renting
a DVD for an unlimited time without incurring
late fees.
I think the people in the patent office
spend a lot of time smoking crack.
