Requesting Suggestions for Online Programs - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi, everybody.

I am looking for suggestions as to what kinds of (small) computer programs people would find handy.

As a hobby, I write small computer programs. I am now hoping to write a few for online use, posted as Javascript or PHP calculators.

So I am now looking for suggestions as to what kinds of calculators you would find useful.

Assume you do not have access to MATLAB or Maple. A hand calculator can do a lot, but it is not the most inconvenient interface. For example, a “3 Equations in 3 Unknowns” system can be programmed into many hand calculators, but a convenient web calculator, designed specifically for this particular problem is much nicer—quickly enter the numbers, click a “Solve” button, and you’re done.

Do you find yourself doing the same calculations over and over again, wishing a simple program were available that could eliminate many of your keystrokes? If so please let me know about them.

Heres a suggestion. Make "real" versions of all the ones Kirt has that are done in that @%$^*!@ Microsoft OWC format. Sorry Kirt, but its MS I hate for creating proprietary stuff like that.

Some of those programs look pretty good. Do they get a lot of use? Which ones are the most popular? I have a few additional ones in mind. For example, Fourier Transforms, Bessel Functions, etc.

Somebody also suggested N Equation in N Unknowns in which the unknowns are complex. They mentioned such systems are solved when doing signal analysis. (I have no personal experience with these situations, so I am also curious: when DO such systems arise? A specific example would be much appreciated). Before going ahead to write such routines, I would like to get an idea how popular they would be.

In any case, I am still looking forward to receiving suggestions, perhaps with a brief comment about how popular you think it would be, the application in which you use it, etc.
