So that's why we all look so svelt and beautiful:
all that radiation does wonders for our skin tone
after standing in front of a few hundred watts of
VHF. From what little I have seen of portable
diathermy devices they push out a few tens of milliwatts,
and operate at a few MHz. I have seen some pain
relief type devices operating at kHz frequs though,
but very little power. So the spin is: don't
be scared about EM Radiation: it's good for you.
Have some more.
"What is Radio Frequency?
Radio frequency in the context of
aesthetic beauty, is a general method to heat deep
skin layers by delivering electrical current via
poles/electrodes to the body, in order to tighten
and rejuvenate skin, or reduce cellulite or pockets
of fat."

Greetings Guys: I looked at the website,
and while they do have some cool pictures of a "tripole,"
I have to be a bit skeptical.
I wonder if there has ever been a study
done that shows people have nicer skin in areas
where their cellphones are stored and used? If the
frequency used happens to be in one of the cell
bands, then there should be a lot of people walking
around with beautiful ears, hips, and thighs.
There is at least one legitimate use for
RF therapy other than x-rays for cancer treatment.
Melanie had been suffering with acid reflux for
many years, and back around 2003, she underwent
a treatment called a Stretta® Procedure. It was
a relatively new treatment at the time.
With it, a probe with retractable RF pin probes
is inserted in the esophagus, into the region of
the lower esophageal sphincter (just above the stomach
opening. RF energy (I asked the doc, and he wasn't
sure of the frequency) is blasted into the muscle
with the result being that over a few months time
the collagen in the area shrinks in reaction to
the local heating.
This website has a animation of the procedure
http://www.reflux1.com/video/LibraryStr ... mation.swf
It worked for a couple years, but a hernia
at the top of the stomach lining was still causing
a problem, and limited the effectiveness of the
Stretta, so she ultimately underwent a procedure
where the surgeon wraps the top of the stomach around
the lower esophageal sphincter to physically reduce
its diameter so that the muscle can close the opening.
Incomplete closure is what allows the acid reflux
to occur. So far, so good. I only went into
the gory details in case someone reading suffers
from GERD or LPR (which was Melanie's malady) and
is desperately seeking treatment.

I really haven´t found any convincing arguments
regarding the usage of this technology for this
application. What i do know is that there
are RF-scalpels ...

Newbee here. Just enjoying your post when I came
across your medical application of RF. As it turns
out, I have a couple of other applications.
One was for the treatment of prostrate growth.
The company packed three spiral antennas along with
three optical fibers within a catheter. As I recall,
the antennas were driven around an ISM frequency
at 2.? GHz and the fibers were doped suct that they
flouresced at the tips (inside the patient) and
the wavelength of the flourescence changed with
temperature. Hence the patient had three temperature
regulated microwave heaters in him. The story
was that lack of blood flow in the prostrate would
cause it heat more than the surrounding tissue,
causing some tissue to die and be reabsorbed by
the body.
The other app was much simpler,
and I know it's still in use. Essentially, a
3-1/2 in "pancake" coil and a couple of mica capacitors
form a tank that rings at about 2 MHz. These are
part of a simple Collpits oscillator keeps a couple
of amps circulating though the coil. The resulting
B field is strong enough to power / charge a medical
implant that is located under the skin. So, a goodly
few people are walking about with 25mW transmitters
tapped to their bellies.

And you forgot about pigeons becoming eagles
when flying near airport radar antennas...
