802.11g Forward Error Correction - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hello all,

Does anyone know what type of forward error correction coding is used in 802.11g?

At 54 Mbps, the 802.11g standards documents states a 3/4 coding rate.

Where can I get more information on the coding using for 802.11g? Is it implementation (chipset) specific?

It's a normal convoluational code at 1/2 rate. other rates are achieved by puncturing data. You can check the 802.11 standards or any digital communication text books for details. The encoder is standard and the decoder is implementation specific.
