Radio Frequency Problem - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Under noisy RF conditions, how would i expect network throughput to vary as the fragment size is increased from very short to very long

This is a complex issue. The ITU-R subcommittees have addressed some aspects, particularly in relation to the carrier to noise ratio versus bit errors and block error rates. In the context of asynch framed bit streams the answer depends on what QAM constellation you use. However, the re-try rate for IP based systems, and hence the impact on latency, I do not believe has been covered. Perhaps you may know how one relates to the other. Check out the ITU Radio subcommittees.

Hi lankapala,
When you encounter radio communication problems, the configuration of the Wlan devices can be the cause of the radio failure. You must configure certain parameters properly for the devices to communicate successfully. If you configure the parameters incorrectly, the problem that results appears to be a problem with the radio. These parameters include the Service Set Identifier, frequency, data rate, and distance.
