Samsung Chooses Azimuth Systems’ Fixed-Mobile Convergence Performance Test Solution

Leading Global Mobile Phone Provider Uses Azimuth’s FMC Suite to Test UMA/GAN Dual-Mode Handsets

ACTON, MA – October 30, 2007 – Azimuth Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless engineering test equipment, today announced that Samsung Electronics has selected the Azimuth FMC Performance Test Solution to streamline the testing of its UMA/GAN dual-mode handsets, including the Samsung SGH-t409 and SGH-t709 models. Azimuth’s FMC Performance Test Solution features more than 20 unique, automated and repeatable tests over a broad range of real-world environment dynamics to measure Wi-Fi performance in the three areas that get the most attention from end-users: dropped calls, battery life and call quality.

Distributed by one of the nation’s top service providers, Samsung’s UMA/GAN dual-mode phones allow users to make standard mobile phone calls, as well as calls over Wi-Fi – saving them money through the use of local mode to tunnel the connection to the carrier. Additionally, the Samsung UMA/GAN dual-mode handsets allow seamless, transparent use of voice, messaging and data.

The Azimuth FMC Performance Test Solution will allow Samsung to thoroughly analyze the voice quality of its converged Wi-Fi/Cellular handsets in a variety of range, roaming, and hand-in/hand-out scenarios under various motion and traffic conditions. The test suites leverage extensive test automation, including traffic generation, sophisticated motion emulation and controlled RF test environments to enable accurate and repeatable data and voice performance testing of Wi-Fi/Cellular handsets – reducing the testing process from weeks to days.

“The fact that Samsung, a leading mobile phone and telecommunication equipment provider, has chosen to adopt the FMC Performance Test Solution to test their dual-mode UMA/GAN handsets is a testament to the advanced capabilities of Azimuth’s wireless testing solutions,” said Graham Celine, senior director of marketing at Azimuth Systems. “By delivering the real-world environment in a lab setting, the FMC Performance Test Solution will streamline Samsung’s testing process to ensure efficient and repeatable results, while replacing time consuming wireless field tests.”

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
