Tyco Electronics - Press Release 10-30-2007

Tyco Electronics Expands the M/A-COM Family of High-Performance, Lightweight CablesTyco Electronics Expands the M/A-COM Family of High-Performance, Lightweight Cables for Military Airborne Applications

New Cables Offer 25-31% Weight Savings Over Traditional Cable Constructions

LOWELL, Mass. – October 30, 2007 – Tyco Electronics announced today that it has extended the M/A-COM family of high-performance, lightweight cables to include five new cable types covering a variety of outer diameter sizes and constructions. The M/A-COM FA20RXLW, FA29RXLW, FA46RXLW, FN49RXLW and FN52RLLW augment the company’s successful FN34RXLW cable line and are ideally suited for use in electronic defense, launch vehicles, commercial aviation, space/satellites and other general purpose military applications.

“We understand and appreciate that the rigorous requirements of modern airborne applications, especially the demands on high-quality cable assemblies,” said Ray Schwartz, product manager, Tyco Electronics. “The expansion of the M/A-COM family of lightweight cables assemblies is a deliberate effort to provide our customers with the most versatile and comprehensive line of high-quality components that are guaranteed to satisfy the demands of even the most demanding airborne applications.”

As outlined in the table below, each of the new cables offers a 25-31% weight savings over traditional construction with no change in VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Radio) or insertion loss. The new assemblies can also withstand the same harsh environments as M/A-COM traditional assemblies, including altitudes from ground-level to more than 70,000 feet and temperatures variations from -55°C to +200°C. Complementing the lighter cables, all assemblies feature reduced weight and volume connectors which retain conventional ETNC, SMA and N interfaces while incorporating new materials. The new M/A-COM assemblies are also available in various outer diameters and numerous jacket materials. These products may be subject to US export compliance laws and regulations.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
