The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Greetings:

While I have never worked in a location where someone went postal and started shooting up the place, I have been around for some pretty major office temper explosions.

In one place I worked when still a technician, it was common place for engineers and managers to scream at each other at the tops of their lungs. That was a defense contractor company in Vermont, but I won't mention its name because it long ago was bought out by a larger company. Hopefully, the yelling has stopped.

The only other instance of note was a few years back while working as an engineer for a very well-known RF test equipment manufacturer. I was sitting in my cubicle when all of a sudden a guy down the aisle burst out screaming and uttering profanities. According to his rant, he was sick of being told how to do his job and was fed up with his boss. I did not know the guy real well, but he was a respected design engineer (30-somethingish). He flung open the door and stormed out; we never saw him again. By the end of the next day, all the vultures had picked his well-stocked cubicle clean of test equipment, probes, coax cables and adapters, software, and any other salvageable red meat. It was a skeleton of a place when the cloud of commotion cleared. It seemed so much like the desecration of a grave that I almost felt bad for grabbing his network analyzer calibration kit.

So, have any of you ever experienced a similar or worse situation? Feel free to describe it to us here in a response. Thanks.

I want to know who is dishing out the mild beatings. Sounds like my kind of place.

Greetings:

I see we have one case of murder in the workplace. If this literal or figurative? If literal, care to add some detail? Place? Time? Circumstances?

Does violence against oneself count?

There was a woman that worked at our company that was famous for throwing tantrums and threatening to quit. A few weeks ago she really went off and screamed that she's quitting. She stormed out of the building with only full coffee cup in hand, and managed to pull the door shut behind her - right into the coffee cup she was holding. She masher her wrist majorly and drenched herself with coffee to boot. It was all we all could do to keep from just roaring out with laughter. Some were just stunned.

She hasn't been back even to collect her stuff. We'll probably hear about a lawsuit in process to hold our company liable for her maiming herself. God, it's good to be rid of her!!!

Earl :-D
